All-on-4 dental implants can replace an entire arch of missing teeth with just four metal posts. This allows for quicker recovery, a lower risk of potential complications, and better overall patient outcomes.
Traditional dental implants require you to receive one implant for each missing tooth. This process required multiple operations spaced several months apart and an extensive recovery period.
The team at Savannah Dental, and specifically, world-renowned implantologist Dr. Walinchus, can place All-on-4 implants in a day, restoring your smile almost instantly. Dr. Walinchus isn’t the only oral surgeon on staff, but he enjoys taking cases from start to finish.
To determine if you’re a good candidate for All-on-4 dental implants, the team at Savannah Dental takes a series of X-rays using the on-site cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scanner. Using the three-dimensional images of your jaw, the team evaluates your bone health, volume, and quantity.
About 95% of people missing all or some of their teeth qualify for All-on-4 implants. If you have gum disease or low bone volume, the team might recommend bone grafting or periodontal treatment before moving forward, but this is rare.
Getting All-on-4 implants begins with an initial consultation at Savannah Dental. During this appointment, the team evaluates your oral health, takes comprehensive CBCT scans, and develops a custom treatment plan. Dr. Walinchus then uses special software to guide planning and take digital impressions of your teeth.
About a week later you return to Savannah Dental. Dr. Walinchus places four metal posts in your upper jaw, lower jaw, or both jaws and then attaches snap-on dentures, teeth-in-a-day, or implant bridges to the posts.
Before placing your All-on-4 implants, Dr. Walinchus administers a local anesthetic to numb your tooth roots and gums. If you have low pain tolerance or suffer from dental anxiety, you can also undergo sedation dentistry. In fact, the team can provide an anesthesiologist when requested.
Once the anesthesia wears off, it’s normal to experience some mild swelling and sensitivity. However, these symptoms should subside within a day or two of your procedure. Many people return to work and other routine activities within 48 hours.
Following All-on-4 placement, you can eat most of the things you normally would, except for especially hard, chewy, or brittle foods. Follow the team’s recovery instructions carefully. You can return to your regular diet about 6-10 weeks after your surgery.
